A Lil Ratscals Adoption Form

by Carole Nelson

Before you decide to purchase a Lil Ratscal baby from me there are a few things you must know. Rats must go together in same sex pairs. Unless you have an appropriately altered rat at home or another rat of the same sex that will be it's cage mate, I will not sell to you. Rats are very social and even though a human may spend most of the day with the rat it does not take the place of rat to rat interaction. They thrive living with their own kind. All babies are sold with an adoption/sales agreement. This is to make sure that all rats who leave the rattery will be going to a good home.

I do not sell feeders. I prefer new owners to pick up their rats at my home, when weaned off of the momma. This way you can meet the sire and dam of your new baby, take a tour of the rattery and get a closer "behind the scenes" look at how my rattery is run. This will also give me the opportunity to discuss your new rat and answer any questions you may have concerning feeding, care etc.

Occasionally, I will post photos of new litters in my online photo album.  If you see an unreserved rat that interests you, please let me know.  If all babies are reserved you can contact me and I will add you to my waiting list.  Please specify the coat type, markings, color and ear type you would prefer and whether or not you would like a male or female.  Payment must be received in full before you can take your new rat home. I prefer cash.

If you keep other rodents and they are ill you must let me know. Some viruses are highly contagious and spread easily through air. These viruses also stick to clothing and hands. When you come to visit make sure you have not touched your rats at home and that you have showered beforehand. Do not wear clothes that may have come into contact with your rats, or a pet shop...

It is advisable that when you arrive home you quarantine your new baby for a minimum of two weeks before introducing him/her to your colony. It is best to quarantine in a separate household as certain illnesses spread via air. I know this is not always possible but it is to protect your rats as well as I protect mine. I will take no responsibility if your colony should fall to an illness that originated from one of my babies if a proper quarantine was not done. Some rats show no illnesses but can carry a virus. Two weeks is not long to play it safe to see that neither rats come down with any health problems. All babies who leave my rattery are said to be healthy and sound to the best of my knowledge.
